So I finished season 3 of Suits before and after going to a virtual Open Mouth Literary reading
last night. I got my mom to start watching it a week ago and I feel so proud that she’s a fan now.My thoughts right now… okay so obviously spoilers for season 3 past this point?
Let’s get into it. I got tired of Harvey, and Donna’s relationship with Harvey, loooong ago. Those two are in a disgustingly codependent situation. They manipulate Mike SO hard. And it’s honestly so funny to me that he acts like his literal two choices are 1) be lawyer, or 2) be person who takes the LSAT for other people. I’m also very obsessed with the way the clients’/opponents’ storylines will be SUCH HEAVYHANDED parallels of Mike/Harvey/Jessica’s situations.
Rachel is still my favorite character, sometimes by a lot. But after Jessica’s story at the end of episode 15?? Miles stopped playing their game to watch with me. Probably because I was getting really worked up! Like, Jessica is in no way as bad as people like Harvey, she’s just playing by the rules these shitty men all created at the exclusion of women and POC! I said screw this I’d rather watch a show with her as a protagonist— and then Miles reminded me that this does in fact exist.
Which reminds me, it is kind of odd how most of the women in the show have to constantly labor, emotionally and literally, for men, often without thanks or acknowledgment.
God I’m thinking about Donna’s
and Harvey’s manipulation of Mike again. Like… they frighten me. As someone with 24 years of experience in Daddy Issues, Mike’s relationship with Harvey is truly so fucked up. Let’s see how long his departure lasts. This show is so camp. So cishetero, but so camp.

July 14th was International Nonbinary Peoples Day.
Reminder that gender =/= pronouns =/= genitals
Reminder that “nonbinary” is not a “third gender”!! the point is *not* being……. binary, or boxed in, or anything of the sort
An early version of one of my favorite poems about gender was published last year in South Florida Poetry Journal’s Just Say Gay folio (plus a love poem for Miles! shout out to enby4enby love!)

Totally Unprompted Postscript Thought: I refuse to be a part of any space, literary or otherwise, that harbors abusers. No matter how famous a Latino author he may be.
It was an amazing reading!!
My mom has such good taste in tv but I honestly rarely watch any shows. I always feel bad about not being able to talk about tv together but now we can!
