Last Stop has been out for almost a week! You can order my chapbook here or in Seattle if you’ll be at AWP. The poems were written directly after my father died from suicide in 2020. I’m really grateful for this work to be out there, especially with an incredible indie press like Defunkt.
I’ve also had some other exciting publications the past few days:
Two of my flash essays are in the latest Delicate Friend, an absolute DREAM publication for me.
My microreview of Javier O. Huerta’s American Copia: An Immigrant Epic (Arte Público 2012) is in Revolute’s latest issue. I am obsessed with this work and highly highly recommend, especially to anyone interested in bilingual, hybrid writing.
Texas State’s student paper, the University Star, has a very kind story about Last Stop, my journey as a writer, and my experiences with grief. Shout out to Marisa Nuñez for being a great person to talk to!
While I haven’t had as much time to read for fun while *life* happens, I did come across a couple things I want to highlight:
C.M. Green’s “A Perfect Man” in fifth wheel press. I’m a little obsessed with their writing style
mónica teresa ortiz’s incredible poem “Provocations 1” in Split This Rock. the ending!!
Editor, colleague, and friend Diamond Braxton is absolutely killing it with pieces in Best Microfictions AND Best of the Net! What the hell!! I am so proud!!
The trans joy folio I’m curating at ANMLY, “it’s a good day to be trans!”, is coming along SO great. Can’t wait to share these poems, collages, flash pieces, and illustrations.
Some opportunities:
Trans Lifeline name change microgrant application is open til the 14th! Trans sibs, get that $$. Cis allies, consider donating!
Brevity is still accepting submissions for their trans issue
Honey Literary, Foglifter, and Olney Magazine are all open for submissions right now, and all are inclusive spaces to consider checking out. (Olney has a special place in my heart for soliciting this angry twitter poem back in 2021)
Last of all, AWP things.
I’m reading at two offsites and have two signings! Come say hi, pick up a book or two, or tell me your favorite Modern Baseball song. Graphics below:
Much love. Stay strong. It’s rough out there but doesn’t have to be rough… here. In this newsletter I guess? *shrugging emoji* okay bye!
